Tools to Help Local Leaders with California's Changing Demographics

THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA, local officials are seeking new and better ways to engage their residents and add community voices to important public discussions. The most important question in this conversation is, "how does a jurisdiction achieve participation levels that represent the broader community - young people, renters, lower income residents, members of ethnic communities and newcomer populations?"

The Institute for Local Government has taken up this challenge. They have released a new publication - " A Local Official's Guide to Immigrant Civic Engagement," which offers local officials strategies for organizing workshops on participation in civic engagement and offering ideas and advice to counties seeking broader community representation in their civic engagement activities.
